A recent Press
Release
IS IT PINE OR IS
IT HARDWOOD!!
Pine manufacturers have
been talking for some time about what direction and future
their trade will take. The last few Birmingham furniture shows
have seen a strong trend in oak and contemporary design. Pine
retailers are looking for something different. Maybe hardwood
furniture manufacturers would like to find ways of launching
lower cost ranges without sacrificing margins.
Sylvan is offering a range
of solid clear pine panels to furniture and kitchen manufacturers
with considerable impact. It seems to be a product with an
exciting future, because it covers so many of today’s
requirements in the furniture trade. Designers like Ralph
Beckett – a leading furniture designer, who is working
with many well known manufacturers is very excited by the
product. He recently commented, -
‘the potential for the product from a design point of
view is extremely exciting. It (clear pine panel)
can take us away from the old world character one automatically
gets with knotty pine. This puts
the product in a totally different market place.’
Ralph and other designers,
together with a number of well known manufacturers are looking
at launching contemporary ranges in clear pine. The product
also fits in well with current trends in ‘fusion furniture’
and the 50 – 60’s style which is growing in popularity.
A number of hardwood furniture manufacturers are equally excited
by the product. When stained and finished it can resemble
very closely Oak, Cherry, Ash and Elm. This gives them the
opportunity of marketing lower cost ranges without sacrificing
quality and margins – a most important point in today’s
extremely tough trading conditions.
Sylvan Products would welcome
discussions with interested designers and manufacturers who
can see the potential to fill a gap in the market between
pine and hardwoods.

We are working with P.A. Savvaerk Korinth A/S –

To supply high quality
Danish hardwood timber and furniture components. A speciality
of the mill is the production of steam bent components from
Beech and Oak typically for the design led chair market.
The company is able to

items, like steam bent chair parts and flooring, in Beech,
Oak, Ash, Cherry and Larch. Complete or part sets can be supplied
all to the Buyers specification.

more than willing to help their customers with new designs
and are prepared to produce prototypes of new ideas on a test
sample basis.
All the beech is lightly
steamed to give a homogenous colour.
To keep the highest quality
in the mill continual investment has always been made in modern
machinery and highly skilled staff. Methods of manufacture
are flexible and this enables production to offer assured
delivery times and assist customers to achieve ‘just
in time’ deliveries. Orders of one pallet/+ can be delivered.
The sawmill was founded
in 1885 and was bought by the present owner, Per Axelsen,
in 1972. In the ensuing years he has continued to invest heavily
in modern machinery as well as kilns which have a large and
flexible drying capacity. The sawmill is considered one of
the most efficient in Denmark when it comes to the production
of furniture components.
